What Are Chakras?

In many spiritual and healing disciplines, and in the world of energy medicine the word Chakra pops up quite a bit.

So… what are chakras?

Chakras are subtle energy centers that affect all levels of your being: physical, emotional, psychological, and spiritual. They open our connection to the Universe, expand our grounding to the earth and link us to the universe as a whole

The word ‘chakra’ is derived from the sanskrit word meaning ‘wheel’. Literally translated from Hindi it means ‘Wheel of spinning Energy’. A chakra is like a whirling, vortex-like, powerhouse of energy.

Chakras are integral to energy healing, making up one of the primary energy bodies. Each chakra is a beautiful, energetic structure that gives you an opportunity to understand yourself better.

“Chakras connect your spiritual bodies to your physical one.

The chakra system is an organizational structure for how the soul handles its life force. Each chakra handling a particular kind of energy. Chakras exist at the meeting point of mind and body, in what is called the subtle body, yet they have a location in the physical body.

Most people are familiar with the 7 primary chakra system, which include the root (base), sacral, solar plexus, heart, throat, third eye (brow), and crown chakras. The 12 chakra system includes the 7 major chakras, plus 5 transpersonal chakras found outside the body. There are also minor chakras in the hands, feet, fingertips and shoulders. Some go even further to recognize up to 114 different chakras.

A chakra's primary function is to bring positive and nourishing life force energy into the human body. Chakras also give off energies into your immediate environment. You can energetically perceive and interact with the energetic world around you through the chakra system.

The 7 major chakras

These 7 spinning spheres of bioenergetic activity are stacked in a column of energy that span from the base of the spine to the top of the head.

Each chakra has its own vibrational frequency, colour, and sound that it is attuned to. Chakras can be knocked off balance by any number of things, including stress, trauma, grief, toxins, and even the weather.

In today’s hectic, stress-inducing world, fully balanced chakras are extremely rare to come by. Therefore, don’t feel disheartened if you suspect something’s not quite right.

Do Chakras Change Shape And Location?

Chakras are dynamic. This means they are not static and change depending on the energies around us or within us. Depending on these energies, the chakras may change shape, spin direction, colour and location.

Understanding the chakras offers a profound insight into the interconnectedness of our mind, body, and soul. By aligning and balancing our chakras, we can promote healing, clarity, and harmony within ourselves, allowing for a greater expression of our authentic selves and a deeper connection to the universe.

You are a unique being who will interpret chakras uniquely. With this in mind, it is essential to interpret what you see and pick up depending on your intuition. As an example, if you see a chakra as a specific colour don't assume it correlates to the generic colour interpretation, ask yourself what the colour means to you now. It will give you a far more accurate picture of the health of the chakra than trying to interpret or force a generic understanding of what that colour may mean.

Treatments offer a great way to keep your chakras functioning optimally. In particular, you may be interested in the Chakra Healing Treatment which aims to assist in keeping your chakras cleared, balanced, repaired and well maintained.
